Frequently Asked Questions

  • MY RICH AUNT is a complement to, not a replacement for, college-operated emergency grant funds.

MY RICH AUNT provides financial assistance for non-emergencies.

    · Emergency funds don’t help students participate in study-abroad programs, but MY RICH AUNT will.

    · Emergency funds won’t pay for fees or equipment required for extracurricular activities, but MY RICH AUNT will.

    · Emergency funds won’t pay for a plane ticket for a low-income parent to attend a student’s on-campus performance, but MY RICH AUNT will.

College-operated emergency funds also may tend to be an underused resource either because students aren’t aware of them or are too ashamed to ask for help.

MY RICH AUNT is designed to be an easy, quick, shame-free process.

  • MY RICH AUNT services are unique and will complement other micro-grant programs for students.

Like college-operated funds, most non-profits with micro-grant programs (such the HELPS micro grants program established by billionaire Robert F. Smith, Achieva Atlanta, and FAST) for students only help those with emergencies.

  • MY RICH AUNT will be as user-friendly (for donors and recipients) as the crowdfunding service juggernaut GoFundMe, but will be a unique method for directing tax-deductible donations directly to students.

Turn to MY RICH AUNT when you want to make tax-deductible donations to verified students attending accredited schools.

For students, the population of donors will tend to be people interested in seeing you thrive.

  • After evaluating results of our pilot launch of the initial crowdfunding micro-grant program, MY RICH AUNT will expand its services to include

    · partnerships with retailers (such as Target) to enable students to create dormitory or apartment “wish lists” that can be funded by donors,

    · a peer-to-peer loan service (such as Solo Funds), and

    · opportunities for MY RICH AUNT grant recipients to “pay-it-forward” through community service or post-graduation donations to the MY RICH AUNT general fund.
